Health on my mind

An important family member was taken by ambulance two nights ago with tingling in his chin and shoulders. He was seen by heart specialists and it was determined that he had a 99% blockage in one of the coronary arteries. Zip Zop Zoom, they were able to put a stent in the artery and restore full blood flow. But had symptoms not presented, he was a goner.

Like many, I go through the motions of good health and moderate exercise. When I'm on, I'm really on and the results are great. But then, that tantalizing taste of bourbon and BBQ'd baby back ribs or a plate full of bacon, says. "hey, I'm still here you know."

So here are some modest 60 days totals for me, and I am acknowledging that I cannot yet eat this way every day. Today, a perfect snack is 96 ounces of  Miso Broth. Cooked in is garlic, onion, leek, kale, red cabbage and bell pepper. The greens wilt and I have a "motor boat" thingy that chops them into a fibrous paste. For an extra kick, I add Tamari which gives me some saltiness and a few drops of churned up ripe Jalapeno sauce. Virtually, no calories, it fills me up and I get all this stuff that normally, you'd look at and say- Unh Uh. But it tastes great. And it'll last me for  2 or 3 days.

I started this regimen about 60 days ago. I have lost 15 pounds. They haven't come back. If I want a big ugly steak once every ten days, I don't deny myself. If I ever quit drinking, the 15 pounds would be more like 25. I'm looking to avoiding diabetes, high blood pressure and a possible fate that my family member survived.

To each their own, of course. I only pontificate that 95% of the Republican party be sent to live in the very districts where they have cut food stamps, unemployment benefits and educational dollars.

Could you picture Louie Gohmert or Darrell Issa having to fend for themselves in Chicago's Englewood Community- or more stark, if that's possible, Ziebach County South Dakota, where 60% of the residents live at or before the poverty line. Maybe the tea party stalwarts would like to spend a week in Stockton, or rural Mississippi and then pull their heads out of their asses and get them back on a little straighter.

But we make Adam Sandler movies where he has a remote that he hits so he can undress women, instead. Just give me that remote. I know what I'd do with it, Blake Farenthold or Ted Cruz.

How ironic that pale male and stale Thad Cochran has to woo black voters that he never gave a shit about before so that he can beat back a tea party challenger who thinks that by ignoring nearly 50% of this nation's citizens, that is the cure for our national debt. And the TPer's are bringing in poll watchers to challenge or question those people's voting credentials.

Anyway, I got off track again, but it needs to be said as often as you can stomach hearing it. Google John Fugelsang's homage to Jesus and for a moment, think about priorities that maybe we should be entertaining every once in a while.

Time for another cup of Green Manilishi. I'm thinking of Peter Green today so that's your humstle.  Buon Appetit, Murica.

Black people possibly bailing out thad cochran . Too fuckin' funny

Talking Revolution?

It is inconvenient to occupy the same space on earth when there are Dick Cheneys and Bobby Jindals running around.

The former Vice President has doubled down on his view of what is causing the implosion in Iraq. The current Governor of Louisiana has decided that he cannot live in a world where religion is so constantly under attack by left wing atheists and by god, there's an armed rebellion coming, if that's what it takes to restore god and decency to this country.

Alas, my dreams of a Cub resurgence is probably not going to happen. My friend was at a Cardinal game and saw a guy's t shirt with the caption: Get real Cubbies. It ain't happening for another 105 years.

Tim Howard has been pretty good for the US at the world cup. I'd bet he'd l;like to have Portugal's first goal back.

The Dow Jones averages are threatening to crack the 17,000 point mark with a good week. So why is my gut telling me it might not be a bad idea to sell? My one desire is not to be 80 years old and living in a box under the highway somewhere. I've been lucky and fortunate as well, --- so far.

I have a Hungarian Viszla and she's just so fuckin' nutty. The dog crawls up and sits next to me and throws her front legs around my neck and puts her eyeball on right on mine. She actually knows how to initiate a hug. We all need a hug, now and then.

Summer just officially started but it goes fast. Next thing I'll be doing is buying my grandson clothes for first grade. He's a great kid- smart and interesting.

The Supreme Court, and in my opinion, one of the worst in my lifetime, is deciding 11 pretty crucial cases as they wrap up between now and next Monday. At the top of the agenda will be the Hobby Lobby case. It may mark the height of an activist court, which during his confirmation, Justice John Roberts indicated that he did not care for the court to engage in this type of stances. I just think Citizens United was one of the most bitter pills.

So as we say, "watch this space."

As I was having coffee this morning, The muzak was playing Les McCann and Eddie Harris's Compared to What. Originally it was done at the Montreaux Jazz fest nearly 50 years ago. Treat yourself by checking it out wherever you can find it. The whole room had a different vibe when it was playing. Monday's can be tough. Sometimes a little music is just what we need to balance things out.

Have a good day. Hug somebody--- before my dog does.
