Celebrate the Ides of November

The French company that manufactures Pleyel Pianos is calling it quits. They haven't gotten an order from Frederick Chopin since oh, about 1845.

So, Andy Warhol, I'll wager you never thought that your Silver Car Crash would sell at auction for the tidy sum of $105.4 million. Seeing as how you're dead, you may not be thinking about much these days.

HumJobs keep coming:
Lyle Lovett and the Large Band- Tickle Toe. Paul Butterfield Blues Band- Get Yourself Together. NRBQ- Call Him Off, Rogers. Louis Prima- Angelina  Zoom Zoom.   Junior Brown- My Wife Thinks You're Dead.

Alan Ladd was only 5'4?

So, how close was the American League batting race in 1945?
George "Snuffy" Stirnweiss batted .30854 and beat out, on the last day of the season
Tony Cuccinello who finished at .30845

I was thinking about
 George Raft
 Louis S. B. Leakey
 Connie Hines
 Thor Heyerdahl
 Bernie Geoffrion
 Charles G. Dawes
 Gomez Addams
 Claudia Cardinale
 Dick Dr. Strangeglove" Stuart
Were you??

Elizabeth Warren? Your table is almost ready.

Read in Crooks and Liars: A comment on the intellectual capacity of FOX News' Monica Crowley:
"Why are the best racks always on women I abhor?" So, Monica, your table is not ready. By the way, Mary Landrieu, I don't see a table being ready for you either.

Getting this one out early in the day. There may be more. If not, have a wonderful weekend. Be nice to yourselves and to someone else.

There is Ahab and he beckons

Oops department: In my 11/7 post I mentioned that Tom Ricketts was possibly collaborating with Mel Gibson for an upcoming project. I meant Tom's father Joe. When it comes to political views that rainmakers get involved in it's important to get it right. Sorry Tom. No Mel Gibson moment for you. However, you are doing a bang up job in running the Chicago Cubs. What did the great sage say with the Cubbies in mind? "Anybody can have a bad century now and then." Compared to your dad though-- Well, that's the Peter Principle in its distilled greatness.

How often can John McCain go off his meds?

I'm a big fan of Ezra Klein, a reporter for the Washington Post and an MSNBC contributor. I read his Wonkblog as often as I can. Today he has a list of things the Congress can do to alleviate a revenue shortfall of an additional $6.4 Trillion dollars between 2014 and 2023. His headline is 103 things that could reduce the deficit. In his post of today, he lists about 20 things. It's interesting reading. Does the number $2.7 trillion interest you. And then there are 83 more. What do THEY add up to?

Darrell Issa? Your table is NOT ready.

When you think of great hitters, does the name Edward Delahanty ever come to mind? As Casey Stengal once said, "you could look it up."

I was thinking about:
Mick Ronson
Carol Lynley
"Champagne" Tony Lema
Bob "big bear" Hite
Emile Griffith
"Pigpen"
Gig Young
David Halberstrom
Learned Hand
Were you?

How much does Robbie Cano have to pay Jay Z if he gets 300 Million?

Tell me who really benefits from Quantitative Easing? It ain't me.

Speaking of Casey Stengel (I was you know). One of his best went like this: I've got 25 guys. My job is to keep the 13 who hate me away from the 12 that aren't sure."

Dandelion Greens may be good for my liver. But they taste like shit.

Who is Harry Coover and what did he do? (answer tomorrow)

I probably shouldn't go here, but yes Willard, in your book, No Apology, as it went from hard to soft cover, your editors did expunge the phrase "and a model for health care nationally so everyone can get covered." It's a shame they didn't ask you if they could do that.

HumJobs for today: Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery and the Oliver Nelson Orchestra- Down By the Riverside. Bonnie Raitt- Guilty. Randy Newman (soundtrack from The Natural)- The Mind is A Strange Thing.  Son House-John The Revelator.  Frank Sinatra- Luck be a Lady Tonight.

"Obamacare is less popular than Chlamydia"  Steve Stockman? Your table also is not ready.

Bed pooping department:
Tom Cruise
Rush Limbaugh
Barack Obama (sorry POTUS)
Rob Ford- though you have gotten me through some rough patches.

RIP: Mavis Batey

Thank you for answering the door and letting me into your brains today. Don't be a dick and tell someone you love them. See you tomorrow. Go Blackhawks. Big one tonight!!

And a post script

RIP Todd Christensen

Raider Nation Grieves.

Hummers

Tom Waits- Please Call Me Baby,  Woody Guthrie- Tom Joad Part 1, Bad Company- Bad Company,  Grateful Dead- Black Muddy River.

I think it's time for a woman President. Which woman?

Rand Paul moving effortlessly from the Washington Times to Breitbart News. What verve!

I learned that  Don Newcombe won both the Cy Young and Most Valuable Player awards in 1956. He is one of only two to ever do that.

When are needed and qualified people going to be approved to serve in our nation's judiciary without being filibustered?

Hey Richard Cohen!? Are we seriously STILL freaking out about miscegenation?

Uh Oh. Sarah's at it again. She is "taken aback" over some of Pope Francis's "liberal statements".

HumJob entry 2 seconds ago: The Rosenberg Trio with Bireli Lagrene performing Coquette.  You may not get this song out of your head for days.

I was thinking about:
Hugh Beaumont
Kent McCord
Sandy Koufax
Woodrow Wilson
Jonas Salk
Elbert Dubenion
Martin Luther
Chris Craft

Grover Norquist has good news for us. He says, "the good news is that in 2016 all candidates will be 'Reagan Republicans.' Let's give a big cheer.

Don Cheadle may be slated to play Miles Davis in an upcoming project. I would love to see that.

Did you know that Al Kooper played the organ on the Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone?

Jocquin Andujar once said, " There is one word in America and that one word is- You Never Know."

Take a breath. Forget the shit. Pick one thing that you're thankful for and give it a moment's time today. Then call somebody you haven't spoken to for awhile and tell them you've been thinking about them. While you're at it, tell someone you love them. You just never know.

Thanks for visiting and maybe reading this. I appreciate it---- and you.

VIsitation rights

I welcome you all. People actually show up to see what I've written on a daily basis. Thank you.

Kelly Clarkson and Husband "trying like rabbits to have a baby." I don't need to know that.

Hey Craig Cobb.! SURPRISE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As Flounder said in Animal House,  "this is so great.!"

So what's Dubya doing these days? Staying out of the spotlight, painting, biking with veterans and apparently, pissing off the Anti Defamation League. Why? He's scheduled to speak at the Messianic Jewish Bible Institute. The main feature of this is to proselytize Jews into converting to Christianity and accepting the second coming of Christ.
MEANWHILE
Senator Marco Rubio will give the Keynote address at the Florida Family Policy conference, where he has been invited to share the stage with Mat Staver- who is suing Governor Chris Christie and the state of New Jersey for passing Marriage Equality. The central point of the conference is to support "conversion therapy". How come Michele Bachmann isn't there as well to 'pray away the gay.' Rubio has plenty of time off, as my next post amply demonstrates.

The 113th Congress, with an approval rating of 9% will only work 14 days between now and New Year. Let's congratulate them, however, for passing for the herculean task of passing 47 bills into law during 2013; immigration, minimum wage among them. Wait--------NO? Oh they cut the SNAP program by billions of dollars going forward and tried to defund the ACA over 40 times. Sorry I got confused. But let's give them a giant huzzah. According to congressional sources, their work totals all of 126 days. Ladies and Gentlemen? We have no words which can adequately describe our gratitude.

Governor Tom Corbett, whose approval ratings are steadily challenging that of Congress thinks that a 5% drilling tax for shale production in the Marcellus Fields will scare developers out of Pennsylvania. Funny, West Virgina has a tax and production rigs have doubled there since 2012, while Pennsylvania's number has dropped, with no tax. I don't want to comment about the environmental impact of this practice. You probably know how I feel.

If you do nothing else, please go to demographics.coopercenter.org. You will learn how blue = red.

RIP Aleksandr Serebrov

Happy 70th birthday Joni Mitchell!! I'll bet she doesn't know that Al Stewart's The Year Of The Cat  and Time Passages are both 6m 43secs. long.

HumJobs today:
Aretha Franklin singing Do Right Woman Do Right Man,  All Night Rain by the Atlanta Rhythm Section and Court and Spark. The version by Nora Jones and Herbie Hancock.  Wow.

Basta. Tomorrow's another day. Tell somebody you love them and be as safe as you can.

Buckshot Brainiac

Thank you to soldiers and their families. And thank them again tomorrow too.

Let's see what "brave" people who avoided military service tweet today.

From the "wow" department: Matt Drudge gets mentioned on Homeland.

who said it?
Overheard in Kentucky: 'I can always go back to being a doctor. '

It was painful to watch CNN's Inside Man with Morgan Spurlock. This was the immigration episode where he picks oranges for a day. Not a very easy job, harvesting the foods we eat. Somebody is willing to do it so they can live here. If it repeats (and what cable segment doesn't?), tune in.

Al Strachan. HNIC was nuts to let you go. You tell great stories about the best game on earth.

Crazy HumJobs: Utah Phillips-Moose Turd Pie (It's Good Though)
Van Morrison- Blackbird
Richard Rodgers: Winston Churchill The Valiant Years.  Victory at Sea wasn't slouchy either.
Dave Grusin and The GRP Allstars- Sing, Sing Sing.
Beethoven's 5th.
Arlo Guthrie- The Pause of Mr. Claus.
And especially, Brook Benton--A Rainy Night In Georgia.

Which brings us to renowned authorette, Sarah Palin. Christmas is under attack again. And Google's top line story is, Does Sarah Palin have a second act?  Ask John Fugelsang who compares her to "Jar Jar" from Star Wars.

Marc Trestman? You failed yesterday.

who said it?
"Ya know what the NFL means? Not for Long."

What does Kenny Chesney know about making Rum?

Does Global Warming ensure we'll be watching baseball in December?

You should watch my wife listen to music. Incredible person! And it is indeed an art to watch someone listen. Listening is something we might all do more often.

RIP Dr. George Magovern Sr.

A verrrry happy 10th anniversary to THE CAUSE, Pittsburgh's beloved jam band; playing live and "Dead" music. And making many smiles and friends along the way.

"Everybody's cryin justice- just as long as there's business first-----Bonnie Raitt.

Make sure you tell somebody you love them today. And send a couple bucks to the Philippines. We have no idea.
